We’re expecting weather up in the 90s for a long stretch. We hope you’ve already arranged for maintenance for you air conditioner so it has the best chance to make it through the hot weather without suffering a breakdown. (If you haven’t schedule maintenance service yet, it’s not too late!)
However, if you have an old air conditioner, it might be time to take the big step and have it replaced with a new system, such as one of the great Daikin air conditioners that we install. We’re the only Daikin Dealer in our service area, and Daikin offers a 12-year warranty on its AC units, which is 20% higher than most other brands offer.
Okay… but how just how old is “old” when it comes to an air conditioner?
This is a good question. That most AC manufacturers offer a 10-year warranty will give you an idea of what to expect. Most manufacturers estimate that their equipment will last between 10 to 15 years. Check on your air conditioner’s cabinet to find the service life estimate. If your AC has been working longer than that, it’s probably a good idea to arrange for a replacement.
But… the air conditioner still seems to be working fine…
The key word here is “seems.” An air conditioner may continue to deliver the amount of cooling you need even as its parts wear down. An AC that’s over 15 years old has probably already lost some of its efficiency (check on your history of bills, and you’ll likely see a slow rise) and is in greater danger of a catastrophic breakdown. Even with the best maintenance for the AC, you shouldn’t try to keep the system running far past the manufacturer’s estimate. And if your air conditioner is more than 20 years old, it definitely needs a replacement as soon as possible.
